Billy Don't Be A Hero

So who's idea was this more music thing anyway?

Yesterday I heard a song I haven't heard in ages---"Billy Don't Be A Hero," Bo Donaldson's version.

"Billy, don't be a hero. Don't be a fool with your life. Billy, don't be a hero. Come back and make me your wife. And as he started to go, she said, Billy, keep your head low. Billy, don't be a hero. Come back to me."

The song goes on to describe how Billy volunteered for something courageous during battle and ends up getting killed. His fiance' receives a letter saying he died a hero and she should be proud he died that way. But she threw the letter away.

What a dang tearjerker! Although this song is apparently about the Vietnam War (it was released in 1974), I sat in my car crying and thinking about all of the Iraq war widows. About how their heroes have never come home.

I don't think I can take this music business anymore. I thought listening to the news was depressing. I must be listening to all the wrong stuff!

I need me some Motown. Some Dancing Queen. Some Saturday Night Fever.

My hubby is right. We need an iPod. Time to come out of the dark ages and listen to what we want, when we want!

I remember that song getting to me once or twice, unexpectedly, when I really LISTENED to it.

There's a few songs that'll do that to me.

Oh how I love my ipod. The very best thing about it is how I can make "mix tapes" (bahaha) of course now they are called play lists but it is the same thing. I have them for just about every mood and I never have to go looking for a CD because they are all right there in my little green friend. Go, go and get yourself an ipod, or even better order it online and you can have it engraved for free. How fun.

This song takes me back. It was one of my favorites along with that one about Billy Jo McCallister jumping off the Tallahatchie Bridge.

I had something profound to say and then I got all distracted by the fact that Mrs G.s favorite was Billy Jo McCallister jumping off the Tallahatchie Bridge....I used to LOOVE that song....anyway, sign up for yahoo music. My sister gave us a subscription last year for Christmas and we have used the heck out of it. They have everything and you can create playlists.

That reminds me of 'Run Joey Run'---that song about a father who tries to shoot his daughter's boyfriend and ends up killing her instead. Yikes.

The IPOD changed the way I listen to music. I love, love, love it. My playlists are all organized by mood, "ticked off," "melancholy," "romantic," etc. It's great.

I've never heard that song, I am going to have to listen on itunes.
