Philanthropy Thursday

After writing the post Give One Get One, I started thinking about the things that make a smart philanthropy project.

I did a little research and believe that Heifer International has got it right. If we want to make a dent in the poverty or educational discrepancies in our global community, donating to this worthy organization seems like an excellent way to do it.

Go on over and give a little.

'Tis the season.

Yes, I agree. I've already been there - it is a great organization (but you have a very active community of commenters, so I am going to check back later to hear what everyone else thinks. There's always a surprise here :))

I love this organization. Also, check out Kiva if you haven't already. Thanks for putting this out there.

I've used Heiffer - I sent my brother a clutch of chicken [well chicks really] and of course not really TO him. He was surprised and delighted. I highly recommend them.
Best wishes

I just bought ducks, chicks and geese for my kids and husband for Christmas. (shhhh, don't tell)
Great idea for the season. I have been shopping at www.thehungersite.com for gifts this season, but this was just the thing I needed to involve the kids. It will be fun to explain this on Christmas day.

I bought all of my grandparents geese & ducks through Heifer this year for Christmas. I'm really excited to give the gift that keeps giving, and hope they too find it to be special. However, Heifer was supposed to send along these great little booklets that talk all about the organization, etc. & they didn't! Oh well!
